How to Enable Card Payment Authorization on Your Website

Modified on Tue, 10 Sep at 2:50 PM

This guide walks you through the process of enabling card payment authorization using Version 2 of the system for websites. This feature lets you temporarily hold a specified amount from a customer’s account to verify they have sufficient funds before finalizing the purchase. After the authorization is confirmed, the system will refund the held amount. This process is especially beneficial for subscription-based services and payment plans.

Understanding Card Payment Authorization

Card payment authorization requires some extra setup steps and is not activated by default. Here's a breakdown of how it works:

  • The system will temporarily hold an “authorized amount” from the customer’s account.

  • If the customer doesn’t have enough funds, they will not be able to proceed with the purchase.

  • Once authorization is successful, the system will refund the held amount to the customer.

  • In case your service includes a free trial period, the trial will begin only after the card is authorized.

  • It can take up to 5 business days for the refunded amount to reflect in the customer’s bank account.

  • This feature is exclusively available for subscription and payment plans.

Important Notes:

  • If you want to enable card payment authorization for all plans associated with your payment form, you must complete the steps for each plan.

  • This feature is only available in Version 2 of the website builder. If you're using Version 1, the process differs.
